Regardless of the optimism and promises for a
revamped city, Detroit's voters and nearby citizens
have been discouraged with the results and procedures
of the Kilpatrick administration.  He has managed to
obliterate the credibility and trust of the city with his
destructive personal life, which has aided to the blight
of the hopes of many optimistic citizens.  Mostly all
Kilpatrick supporters from his initial election in 2001 will
admit this wasn't the youthful, innovative person they
thought they voted for.  Instead, they received a double-
dealing partier who consistently exploited their tax
dollars for his personal benefit.

While in office, his chief claim of distinction was being
the youngest mayor in Detroit’s history as well as any
major U.S. city.  However, his immaturity and lack of
experience was revealed during his reign.  Throughout
his administration, he traveled and partied with his
questionable twenty-one member personal security
staff at the expense of tax payers.  Kilpatrick also
rang up $210,000 on his Detroit-issued credit card
during his first three years in office.  He charged multi-
hundred dollar tabs at many fine eating establishments;
some of these items included expensive champagne,
lobster tail and crab legs. One of the most famous
dishonorable purchases by Kilpatrick was a $24,995
lease for a cherry red Lincoln Navigator, which its bill
came from city tax dollars.  After lying repeatedly to the
citizens and the media about its true purpose, Kilpatrick
admitted it was obtained for his wife.

Under his rein, the city has lost many of its cultural
icons.  Early on in his administration, he closed the
Belle Isle Zoo, which was closed illegally with opposition
of the City Council and several Detroit residents.
America’s oldest aquarium, the Belle Isle Aquarium, was
closed in early April 2005 for "budget reasons".
Supporters raised the needed funding to remain in
business and yet Kilpatrick's administration turned
down many multimillion dollar offers to keep this
architectural jewel open.  He also cut funding to the
Detroit Zoo and the Detroit Historical Museums, which
includes Detroit Historical Museum, Fort Wayne and
Dossin Great Lakes Museum.  The historic Madison-
Lenox Hotel was demolished illegally, despite plans
from contractors to restore the building into lofts.

The salacious text messages between Detroit Mayor
Kwame Kilpatrick and his chief of staff Christine Beatty
have made headline news not only locally, but
nationally. These messages detail the escapades of
their secrete affair and also reveal how the pair
conspired to have two Detroit police officers
unjustifiably fired.  Last summer during a lawsuit
regarding the police officers, Kilpatrick and Beatty both
testified under oath that the two of them were not
romantically involved and that they did not fire the two
police officers.  This cover-up cost the citizens of
Detroit $8.4 million dollars and has resulted in several
investigations that could result in prudery charges.

Its for these disturbing reasons that Detroit should try to
find a new pilot of the city.  Detroit is losing credibility
and residents, which is leading to receivership from the
state. The population of Detroit has dropped to the
lowest level it has ever been since 1920.   There are so
many great things about Detroit, hidden and
unpublicized, however, the leader of the city, Kwame
Kilpatrick should be the one to head, showcase and
support them.
